Bath University Cycling Club

Club member John Whittington binned his normal Saturday diet of miles and instead ate up Park Street in Bristol to claim 2nd place behind Wiggle Athlete Ben Simmons.

After qualifying in the morning, John was selected to face off against the Redbull invited pro riders. Dispensing all comers John made the final and put on a great show for the thousands of specators that showed up. Nice one #Johnlad.

Earlier in the day, Mark Bleakley grabbed himself an unexpected 2nd place at the Ludgershall Winterseries. This puts him 1point away from gaining his 3rd Cat license. It is unclear how many gels Mark used in the process.

Next week the off road bunch are off to tear up the Forest of Dean. Boom.

So we’re holding the annual club Hill Climb next Sunday the 30th October. As it is every year it is quite a chilled out affair and the main aim of it is to have a bit of a laugh – but with a competitive edge. Because it’s Halloween next weekend there is a special Halloween fancy dress category, as well as the usual ones:

Fastest XC Bike
Fastest DH Bike
Fastest Fresher
Fastest Singlespeed
Best Halloween Fancy Dress

The meeting time will be 10am at the bottom of Bathwick Hill by the bus stop. The course will run right to the junction of North Road, and after everyone who wants to has been up the hill we’ll go to Parade on campus for coffee and cake.

Format will be classic TT start with riders starting off at specific time intervals. Please bear in mind this is not a race – purely a challenge with prizes  

Non students are welcome to tag in, but keep in mind this is very unofficial and organised by students and not to be taken seriously, otherwise we’ll make you buy cake at the pub.

Small print…

As we are riding on public roads, you must obey the highway code and ride sensibly. The club will disown you and have no sympathy if you hurt yourself riding like an idiot.

No, not the one in Munich that lasts for two weeks, But the equally challenging 8hour end of season Enduro at the excellent Ashton Court trails of Bristol.

Great weekend had by all. Thanks to all who came along, especially those who organised transport, accommodation and general planning. It’s sure to go down in Bath Uni CC history and be talked about for years to come.

BUCS 2011 XC Team Podium

The annual event where student mountain bikers from across the country flock to a cold, wet race course to duke it out for their Uni and personal glory.

Last year’s BUCS was a fantastic weekend, I can definitely recommend it, for riders of all abilities.

Thanks to all those who turned up to the club hill climb champs. Good racing was had by all and just as importantly, lots of time to meet new members and eat cake. With a record turn out of 24 riders and star appearances from SU president DOT and his Dad!! this was definitely the best ever Club Hill Climb. You can fin full results posted in the forum topic.

Its that time of year again….. Hill Climbs! Lung busting, adrenaline pumping, heart racing, chunder fests for some. For most of us however its just a challenge to make it to the top.  Last years event was great with around 15 people racing followed by cake and podiums at the parade bar on campus. This is going to be a little better, more racers, more prizes, more cake and hopefully above all, more fun.

Start time is 11:00am prompt at the bottom of Bathwick hill by the bus stop. The top of the hill is the junction with North road as usual. Then riders will be set off at minute intervals and hopefully we wont make a mess of the timing and we can go and have coffee and cake at Parade bar.

This year to help entice as many as possible of you to come along we are going to have prizes for – KING and QUEEN of the Hill, fastest FRESHER and this year a new category – FIRST DOWNHILL BIKE.

We have some great prizes from ABUS, Tifosi, Knog!, Juice Lubes, Finish Line, Trek, ZipVit, Weilier, ERGON, Sombrio and a signed Alberto Contador poster up for grabs!

Be there or be square

Those of you with your eyes on the forum will have seen that a contingent from the club went to take on one of the last races of the year just down the road in Bristol. Oktoberfest was an 8hour enduro in the awesome trails of Ashton Court. The the club took 4 teams:

Guy and Donald in Pairs
Abi and Sarah Pairs
Levi, Mike and Liam in Team
John and Trevor in Pairs

The weather was perfect and the trails were bone dry. It was a great event and everyone had fun – plus we got podiums in Female pairs and John and Trev won their race. A top day out followed by curry and Jagerbombs!
